Utopian Politics

A couple of months ago, Bryan Appleyard recommended that I obtain a copy of John Gray's Black Mass: Apocalyptic Religion and the Death of Utopia. It was finally available in the US this week. A fascinating and controversial examination of the role of apocalyptic religion in politics and the utopian schemes of liberalism, communism, neo-conservatism and others, with enough inside to make both the left and right angry. And much to contemplate, particularly about the present course of politics.

Read Bryan's Sunday Times review of Black Mass here.
